  • Bartleby.com : Great books online, including Reference, Verse, Fiction, Non-Fiction.

  • Bibliomania : Searchable full-text editions of classic works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry.

  • Classic Reader : Over 600 books and 900 short stories in the public domain.

  • ClassicBookshelf.com : Excellent collection of classics, with an interface that allows you to specify font size, color, and bookmark your place.

  • DigitalBook Index : “Provides links to more than 105,000 title records from more than 1800 commercial and non-commercial publishers, universities, and various private sites. About 66,000 of these books, texts, and documents are available free.” Requires registration.

  • Electronic Text Center Collections : Over 5,000 works, from the Univ. of Virginia.

  • eScholarship Editions : a collection of over 500 publicly accessible books from academic presses on a range of topics, including art, science, history, music, religion, and fiction.

  • ReadPrint: "offers thousands of free books for students, teachers, and the classic enthusiast." 

  • National Academy Press : Over 1,350 full-text books available online.

  • On-Line Books Page : Over 20,000 titles online.

  • Online Texts Collections : Links from the Internet Public Library.

  • Project Gutenberg : Author and title listings to full-text books available online.

  • Web-Books.com : Provides access to thousands of books.
